The black king santon is Balthazar.

He is one of the three Magi of the Nativity.
The Magi are said to be Persian scholars who were guided by a star to Jesus, who had just been born, and brought him offerings.

Gaspard, Melchior and Balthazar represent all the peoples of the world.

All the santons de Provence sold here are traditionally made in Provence from clay by a local craftsman and fired before being hand-painted.
The adult santons measure around 4 to 5 cm and all the animals and accessories are the same size.
They are just like us, some bigger, some smaller, some fatter, some thinner!
They are therefore compatible with other collections of 4 – 5 cm santons.
