Before December 24 at midnight, only the crib, or manger, will be placed in the center of the crib.
At his advent, Jesus is surrounded by Mary and Joseph, the donkey and the ox.
The donkey is the animal that carried Mary to the stable where she gave birth.
Jesus was born in winter, the donkey will be brought to him to keep him warm with its breath.
Above the crib, a star is usually placed, the one that will show the three kings Magi the way to find the baby Jesus who has just been born.

The Christmas crib is a scene with the Holy Family in the first place.
Then will come all the inhabitants of the village, because in Provence
it is the whole village which is represented around the advent.
